Hike for Hospice
Our Hike for Hospice is part of the annual National Hike for Hospice Palliative Care fundraising and public awareness event. All funds raised stay in our community. This family event will once again be held at the magnificent K2 Ranch thanks to the generosity of ranch owners Bob and Barb Shaunessy.
Choose from two hikes based on your interest and ability: a 1.5 km walk around McCarthy Lake or an 8 km round trip hike on an easy forest trail. Each will be led by a knowledgeable guide who will point out interesting features along the way. Or mix and match your hike by strolling around the lake, enjoy your bring-your-own picnic lunch at the McCarthy Lake cabin, then walk part way along the forest trail as far as you wish to go. If you choose the 8 km hike you will enjoy your bring-your-own picnic at a cabin at the half-way mark at the scenic White’s Dam before hiking back to McCarthy Lake.
Carry a paper butterfly as you hike. The butterfly is a symbol of hospice used by many hospice organizations around the world. If you are hiking in honour of someone living with a terminal illness, or in memory of a loved one who has died, you may wish to write their name on paper butterflies available at the McCarthy Lake cabin to carry with you as you walk. Upon returning to the cabin you are invited to pin your butterfly on a banner which is then placed on display in the Hospice Office.
