End of Life Support
The Hospice Society of the Columbia Valley understands that from the time of a terminal illness diagnosis, clients and their families are on a journey. We are here to walk with you on this very personal journey. If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with a terminal illness we can help by visiting you or your loved one anywhere in the Columbia Valley (Canal Flats to Spillimacheen).
Location of visits include:
- In home
- Health Care Facilities
- Provide companionship (i.e. go for walks, play games, read out loud…)
- assist in putting together legacy material such as cards, letters, or video recordings
- Provide caregivers with a break for short periods of time
- listen with an open heart and an open mind
There are a number of ways to be referred into the program. You can self-refer, or be referred to us through a family member, your doctor or home health nurse. For more information, or to have a referral form sent to you, please contact us at (250) 688-1143.
A note about our Volunteer Visitors:
Our volunteers are caring, sensitive people who have successfully completed 18 hours of specialized training and an extensive screening process. They know how to listen without judgment and without giving advice. They understand and respect your need for confidentiality and honour all religious and/or spiritual beliefs without imposing their personal values. They are a special group of people dedicated to connecting with you and walking this path with you.
